Latin America has undergone a great transformation in the past two decades. According to the United Nations analysis, Latin America will find more oil and mineral resources. Accordingly, energy exports, industrial production and tourism output will all be increased. Latin America's economy will continue to grow and foreign investment will increase. And thus, the region will have a growing global presence.

Alejandro Toledo, in his book A shared Society, sets out the blueprint for the ideal shared society. Not only will Latin Americans as a whole be richer, 40 percent of the poor and marginalized today will become the emerging middle class. Democracy will be more efficient, and Latin America's special ecosystems will be protected. Toledo believes that Latin American leaders must have an extraordinary vision, determination and courage to lead Latin Americans on the path to sustainable development.
