EMI Faculty and Students Survey Nanjing and Kunshan in Jiangsu Province

From June 13 to 17, 2016, Dean Professor Hu Biliang led 34 students from the 2016class of  Master’s Students for Developing Countries to Survey Nanjing and Kunshan inJiangsu province, to learn experience in promoting economic and social development in Jiangsu, Nanjing, and Kunshan, and to understand the history and culture of Jiangsu.

The Department of Commerce of Jiangsu, Bureau of Commerce ofNanjing, Nanjing Development Zone, Kunshan municipal party committee and municipal government as well as government leaders attach great importance to this survey. Ms. Liu Liya, Deputy Director of Nanjing Municipal Bureau of Commerce, Mr. Shen Yinlong, Deputy Director of Nanjing Development Zone, Mr. Fan Yang,Director of the International Department of Jiangsu CCPIT, and Mr. Zhang Yuelin, Deputy Party Secretary ofKunshan Party Committee, gave students introductions, held discussionsand answered questions from the students.

Under the guidance of local leaders, the students visited NanjingDevelopment Zone, TICA Group, Laser Science and Technology museum, Suning Group Headquarters, Kunshan Science and Technology Exhibition Center, Visionox Corporation, to understand Jiangsu’s experience in attracting investment and the development of high-tech enterprises. Students also visited the Museum of Nanjing’sSix Dynasties, the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall, Brocade Museum, Zhouzhuang Town, to gain an all-rounded understanding of the history, culture, and tourism development in Jiangsu province.

Students were especially impressed byKunshan’s experience of five transformations since the reform and opening up. As Mr. Zhang Yuelin, Deputy Secretary of Kunshan Municipal Party Committee gave the introduction about this, the students raised many questions to Mr. Zhang, based on their countries’ own conditions, and all were well answered. Students felt enlightened and expressed wishes to explore their own countries’development path based on their local conditions.
